Clean Your Home the Natural Way: 10 Hacks That Really Work!

10 Natural Cleaning Hacks That Truly Deliver

If you’re anything like me, you’re always on the lookout for new ways to keep your home sparkling without harsh chemicals. As a mum of four, I’ve tested countless cleaning methods over the years. My priority has always been my family’s health but we also want our home and laundry to smell divine, don’t we? So how can you find natural cleaning products that actually work and smell good? I think I’ve found the holy grail of natural cleaning products and I want to share some of my favourite hacks with you. Get ready to revolutionise your cleaning routine with these 10 Natural Cleaning Hacks that will leave your home fresh, clean, and most importantly, chemical-free!

1. Lemons: Natural Stain Busters

Nothing smells fresh and clean like a lemon! I love using using lemon juice to remove stubborn stains from cutting boards – those orange carrot stains! Simply sprinkle some coarse salt on the board, then scrub with half a lemon and it will be looking like new again. I also make up a spray bottle with distilled water, 100ml of white vinegar and a squeeze of lemon – as much or as little as you like. This is such a great multi-purpose cleaner and if you aren’t able to always have fresh lemons, lemon juice can work just as well.

2. Vinegar: The All-Purpose One

Yes, this one is like marmite where smell is concerned but it’s a cleaning powerhouse, and I use it for everything from disinfecting countertops to getting rid of limescale. One of my favourite vinegar hacks is using it to clean my windows and kitchen pendant lights – I knew choosing clear glass ones was risky! Just mix equal parts vinegar and water in a spray bottle, spritz onto your windows, and wipe away for streak-free shine. It might not be the best smelling liquid but it’s magic in a bottle. Vinegar also acts as a great alternative to fabric softener – plus it doesn’t leave that dreadful gunky build up in your washing machine drawer that fabric softener does.

3. Baking Soda: For Fresh Carpets

A true multitasker when it comes to cleaning. One of my favourite baking soda hacks is freshening up my carpets. I sprinkle baking soda over the carpet, let it sit for a few hours (or overnight for extra freshness), then vacuum it up. It works like a charm every time and is especially handy if you have four-legged family members in the house.

4. Hydrogen Peroxide: For Stubborn Stains

This mild disinfectant is so useful, especially when it comes to tackling tough stains on clothing. I have spent many years sighing over t-shirts covered in spaghetti sauce but a little hydrogen peroxide saves the day and leaves them looking good as new.

5. Olive Oil: Shine Your Surfaces

Not just for cooking, olive oil can clean too! I love using olive oil to polish my stainless steel appliances and wooden furniture. Just a dab on a soft cloth and you’ll have shiny, streak-free surfaces in no time. Olive oil is also great for conditioning your non-stick pans every few months, it keeps them in great shape meaning they last longer.

6. Salt Scrub: Cuts through the Grease

When it comes to scrubbing away grime, salt is your best friend. One of my favourite salt hacks is using it to clean my frying pans. After cooking for the masses, I sprinkle some coarse salt in the pan, add a little water, and scrub away. It helps remove stuck-on food without damage!

7. Tea Tree Oil: Nature’s Disinfectant

Tea tree oil isn’t just for aromatherapy – it’s also a powerful cleaner and disinfectant. I love adding a few drops of tea tree oil to my homemade all-purpose cleaner for an extra boost of antibacterial power. It’s great for wiping down kitchen surfaces, freshening up bathrooms, and even dealing with mould in damp areas.

8. Corn starch: For Crystal Clear Windows

Corn starch? Yes! This was a new one to me and I’m so glad I found it! One of my favourite corn starch hacks is using it to clean my windows. Just mix some corn starch with water to form a paste, apply to your windows with a cloth or sponge, then wipe away for crystal-clear glass.

9. Essential Oils: Aromatherapy Meets Cleaning

I love the smell of essential oils, but did you know they’re also great for cleaning? I sometimes add a few drops of citrus essential oil to my homemade cleaners for a fresh scent. Lemon, orange, and grapefruit oils are all great choices for cutting through grease and grime while leaving your home smelling amazing. If you add a few drops of essential oil to a cotton ball and pop it in your vacuum cleaner it releases a beautiful scent every time you vacuum!

10. Coffee Grounds: For Fridge Odours

Yes, you read that right – coffee grounds aren’t just for brewing your morning wake up call. I use coffee grounds to absorb the odours in my fridge. Just fill a small bowl with used coffee grounds and place it in the back of your fridge or down the drain – it works like magic to neutralise those unpleasant smells!

So there you have it, 10 Natural Cleaning Hacks that will totally change your cleaning routine not to mention save you money. From lemons to vinegar to essential oils, these are all simple ingredients that you may already have in your cupboard and can work wonders in keeping your home clean and fresh without harsh chemicals.
